1. Adolf Hitler

It’s clear why the Nazi leader is number one. There are people still alive to retell about the evils he has done. The cruelest leader in the human history was elected for German chancellor in 1933, became Fuhrer one year later and remained leader of the country until the suicide in 1945, when Germany lost the World War II. He had intention to create a new order where Nazi Germans would be dominant, so he built a lot of gas chambers where he killed somewhere between 11 and 14 million people, mostly Jews. Despite the gas chambers, he started the biggest and cruelest was that the humanity remembers, in which about 50 million people were killed.

2. Vlad Tepes

Vlad Tepes was the ruler from 15th century after whom the story for Dracula was written. If you were wondering if Dracula’s image was exaggerated, you’ve been wrong. Vlad Tepes was a lot crueler. Cutting off limbs, noses, ears and genitalia (especially the women genitalia), blinding, boiling alive people, blinding, burning and anything else he could imagine. There are speculations that in several occasions he stubbed ten thousand people.

3. Idi Amin

Idi Amin ruled with Uganda for eight years, from 1971 to 1979 when he was ousted and fled into exile. According to the estimations he has killed, imprisoned or tortured a number of 100,000 to half a million of political opponents. Some say that he was involved in blood rituals and cannibalism. Also, he imported military troops from Zaire and Sudan until the Ugandan national in the Army descended to less than 25%. Allegedly, he was mentally ill so the irrational behavior shouldn’t be surprise.

4. Joseph Stalin

Why Joseph Stalin is on this list? Because he had been promising establishment of Utopian socialism in Soviet Union, but instead of that, people gained poverty and paranoid leader. He marked all his political opponents as public enemies, not just the people directly involved in political life but all the people that had different views. Those people were deported, disappeared mysteriously or were simply killed. It’s speculated with a numbers from four up to sixty million people killed by his regime. He died from a stroke in 1953.

5. Pol Pot

It’s believed that Pol Pot has killed about one million Cambodians, which is less than the others on this list, but that’s nearly a 20% of the whole population in Cambodia. He is another one in the series of the “communist” leaders in 20th century. Like Stalin, he is well known due to cruel elimination of political opponents, but those one million people were also dying because of lack of food and medical care as well as mss killings. Among the killed there are rivals from own party, too.

6. Ivan the Terrible

His nickname “the terrible” says enough about him. He ruled with Russia in 16th century and was the first with the title Emperor. This guy, leader in his time, built a wall around a city to prevent people find the way out and tortured and killed from 500 to 1000 of them every day. Other deeds of “the terrible” are beating his daughter-in-law because of wearing indecent clothes and killed his son, named after him, because he argued with him.

7. Ruhollah Khomeini

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini led the Iranian Islamic Revolution in 1979 and ruled with the country for ten years. In one occasion he said: “Who’s trying to bring corruption and destruction to our country in the name of democracy will suffer. They are worse than the Jews of Banu-Ghorizeh, and they should be hanged. We will torture them on the orders of God and God’s call to prayer.” And yes, he killed them. He ordered a lot of prisoners who didn’t share his opinions to be killed. 30.000 of them were massacred in a very short time. Despite that, he imposed Islamic rules for clothing to Iranians.

8. Attila the Hun

Atile the Hun managed to expand his kingdom from the Baltic Sea to the Danube River and from Ural to Germany. In order to do so, he chose the method of cruelty. Whenever he passed, he left a mess unknown even for barbarians. Whole villages and towns were burned, while people had no choice but to join his army. That’s the way he conquered the most of the continent and almost entered in Rome.

9. Francisco Pizarro

Francisco Pizarro never learnt to read, but he learnt how to fight and that made him one of the most famous conquistadors. However, he was also remembered as the cruelest. He conquered today’s territories of Brazil, Ecuador and Peru easily killing Incas in the process. His most famous deed is the killing of the Inca leader Atahualpa. He captured him and promised that he would let him go if a ransom in gold and silver will be paid. He was paid off and then ordered Atahualpa murder.

10. Tomas de Torquemada

Tomas de Torquemada led the Spanish inquisition in 15th century and, as well as all the priests from medieval age, he used his chance to kill people. Like Hitler in 20th century, he didn’t want to see Jews and Muslims on the Earth and started killing them. It is believed that he had killed over 30.000 people in ritual murders. Interestingly, his grandmother was Jew, but he never admitted that.
