Lots of different organizations use secret codes to communicate between themselves. Sometimes it’s so the organization won’t alarm the public to the dangerous situation they’re in, other times, it’s to make fun of them. Here are 5 secret codes systems that they don’t want you know.
1. Military
Different military groups around the world use different codes to let their soldiers know the situation and what the tactical response should be.
Code black: In Australia, a code black is a personal threat, such as hostages, assault or threats.
Code gray: A person who poses a threat despite not having a weapon
Code silver: A person who poses a threat with a lethal weapon
2. Police
The police sometimes use a method of communication called the Ten-code, used to represent common phrases.
187: Homicide
211: Armed Robbery
415: Disturbance
417: Man or woman with a gun
502: Intoxicated Driver
5150: Mentally Ill Person
3. Hospital
Hospitals use imaginary Doctor names through the PA system to announce to their staff that there is a problem, without alarming the patients. For example, “Calling Dr Allcome to Pediatrics.”
Dr Allcome: A serious emergency, where all available doctors should come to help
Dr Firestone/Pyro: There is a fire
Dr Brown: Informs the security that there is a threat to the hostpital employees.
4. Doctors
Doctors give patients invented imaginary diseases when talking to each other, so they can secretly make fun of them in the open.
GOMER: Get Out of My Emergency Room
AMYOYO Syndrome: Alright Motherf—er, You’re on Your Own
CBT: Chronic Biscuit Toxicity; the patient is really fat.
COPS: Chronic Old People’s Syndrome
5. Tech support
Tech support also has their own codes to make fun of you–another reason to hate them.
PICNIC: Problem in chair, not in computer
PEBKAC: Problem exists between keyboard and chair
