6 Weird video game commercials from the past

Advertising in video games is as old as the games themselves. The advertisements that you see on TV these days is not, however, equally childish and silly as before.

1. Legend of Zelda

In the very first game in the legendary Zelda series was released in the U.S. got it a range of … umm … appropriate commercials.  The first contains a cool guy rapping and his obvious geeky friend and the second introduces us to a mentally ill person who probably escaped from a nearby psychiatric clinic in order to save Princess Zelda.

2. Crystalis

This, to me unknown, game has a live-action advertising with effects and acting so bad that they could be surpassed by a 12 year old and his buddies who have borrowed his father’s camcorder.

3. You Cannot Beat us

A film clip that advertise the entire 8-bit Nintendo console and tells about all the challenges that await you. The only problem is that it is so surreal and frightening brain wash  message “You Cannot Beat us”, pronounced with unpleasant electronic voice re-used too many times to make you feel completely hypnotized.

4. Panasonic Real 3D0

Awful, awful commercial…

5. Ice Hockey for Atari 2600

Phil Hartman. Best known for movies he starred in the 90′s. Simpsons character Lionel Hutts. Newradio tv show. Great actor. But pretty weird commercial.

6. Super Mario Bros.. 2 (Japanese)

According to the orignal Maro Brothers 2 manual which states, and I quote ” He thinks he is a girl and spits eggs from his mouth. He’d rather be called “Birdetta”
