The Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi installed world’s most expensive tree ever, estimated to be worth more than $11 million.
The 13-metre high fake fir tree, located in the hotel’s lobby, was decorated by Style Gallery which covered the tree in more than 180 very real gold, diamonds, emeralds, pearls, sapphires, rubies and other precious stones and expensive decorations.
A hotel’s statement said that the hotel was just a venue for exhibiting the tree.
After admitting Emirates Palace Hotel was going to call the Guinness World Records, the hotel apologized for the tree, saying it regretted “attempts to overload the tradition followed by most hotels in the country with meanings and connotations that do not fall in line with the (hotel’s) professional standards.” It also said that that was the hotel jeweler’s fault.
“Putting up the Christmas tree is not a novelty, rather, it is a tradition meant to share in celebrating occasions guests hold while they are away from their home countries and families,” the hotel said in the statement.
Earlier this year, the Emirates Palace Hotel installed its own vending machine that dispenses bars of gold. The hotel also features a $1 million weeklong package which includes private jet jaunts around the Middle East.
