The American Film Institute Sunday announced its list of 10 most outstanding achievements in film and television in 2010
The AFI’s list includes movies: “Black Swan,” “Inception,” “The Fighter,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “The Social Network,” “127 Hours,” “The Town,” “Toy Story 3,” “Winter’s Bone” and “True Grit.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, special awards were also given to two films that were ineligible for the top 10. First was “The King’s Speech,” which couldn’t qualify because it’s British production, and “Waiting for ‘Superman,’” which couldn’t be considered because it’s a documentary.
The AFI president, Bob Gazzale said that this was the first time the honors have included special awards, which allowed the group to acknowledge “outstanding work outside the traditional AFI criteria.”
The AFI also announced list of its top 10 TV programs of the year, which includes: “The Big C,” ”Breaking Bad,” ”Boardwalk Empire,” ”Glee,” ”Modern Family,” ”Mad Men,” ”The Pacific,” ”30 Rock” ”Temple Grandin,” and “The Walking Dead.”
The film selections were determined by a jury of film industry academics, players and critics, which included Diablo Cody, Leonard Maltin, Lee Danielsand, Lisa Schwarzbaum and Claudia Puig. The TV program selections were determined by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mary McNamara, Steven Bochco, Matt Roush and James Poniewozik.
