A young woman was saved from a brutal shark attack after a courageous man pulled the shark’s tail and drove the animal away.
19-year-old diving instructor Elyse Frankcom led a group of swimmers to encounter dolphins, in waters bordering the Indian Ocean Western Australia, about 50km (30 miles) from Perth. She was working for Rockingham Wild Encounters, the company that organises boat and swimming trips.
The great white shark, ten feet long according to witnesses, grabbed hold of Frankcom, sinking its teeth into her upper thigh. As the animal began shaking its head and Frankcom tried to escape from the shark’s jaws, an unidentified man arrived and grabbed the shark’s tail. Then, he grabbed her and guided her to the surface. He also assisted in getting her back on the boat.
Terry Houston, from the Rockingham Wild Encounters, said: “They pulled a shark tooth out of her butt, so Elyse is pretty proud of that. She’s got that as a bit of a memento.”
The man, known as Trevor, told Terry Howson, the owner of the company that he does not want any rewards, according to the Australian. “He goes, ‘I just did something, I didn’t plan it, I just did something and it paid off and that’s great. But I don’t want a commendation, I don’t want credit’,” Terry Howson told the Australian
Elyse Frankcom was reported in stable condition in a local hospital after undergoing six hours of surgery. She is expected to make a full recovery.
