70 guitars from Eric Clapton’s personal collection, including a guitar he played in the 2005 Cream reunion shows in London and New York, will go on auction in order to raise money for charity.

“I am very happy that Bonhams have agreed to host my third guitar auction in aid of The Crossroads Centre, Antigua, the drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre I founded in 1998,” said Clapton.

A pair of Marshall speaker cabinets used in the early 1970s when Clapton was performing with Derek And The Dominos is expected to fetch over 5,000 pounds.

Guitars donated by Joe Bonamassa, JJ Cale and Jeff Beck will go on auction too.

“We are delighted to be offering such a fantastic collection of guitars and amps from such an iconic musician,” said Stephanie Connell, head of entertainment memorabilia at Bonhams.

Speaking to Associated Press in 2007, the famous guitarist said he hadn’t had a drink or drug for a long time and that’s completely changed his life. He also said that was something he wanted to pass on and share with other people.

The auction will take place on February 9 in London.
