On December 7, Google is hosting an event in San Francisco where it will demonstrate a netbook based on its Chrome operating sistem.
Google has already sent invitations to the event, stating: “On Dec. 7, we will host an event in San Francisco where we plan to share some exciting news about Chrome.”
Rumors say there will only be about 65,000 units produced, and those will go to Google’s employees and closest “friends and family.” Google has already used this testing metod for its Nexus S Android phone. Chrome OS on the devices will be an early beta release which is not quite ready for prime time, so the company wouldn’t want to sell the netbooks to general consumers.
Chrome OS won’t be available to costumers until 2011.
Chrome OS is Google’s support platform for Chrome Web browser, which accounts for 9.27% of browser use, according to Net Applications.
Google intends the platform to run on netbooks and other machines with keyboards, booting up in seconds as an alternative to computers based on Apple Safari, Microsoft Windows and Linux.
