A 4-month old pit bull mix puppy called Leela could be considered a miracle puppy after she ate a wooden drumstick.
According to the Leela’s owners, she chews on everything she can.
“She’s a pup right now so she chews on about anything she can get a hold of,” said Thomas Driscoll, the dog’s owner.
“She’s eaten a few shoes, she’s chewed up a football, some…ummm towels, she’s chewed up all her toys, she’s a good chewer!” said Thomas’ sister Alex Driscoll.
But when Leela suddenly stopped eating and chewing, she was taken to veterinarian Dr. Kathy Blanchard. When Dr. Blanchard first caught sight of the puppy’s x-rays, she thought they were a hoax.
“I thought the techs were playing a prank on me. I thought they’d taken a piece of pipe, we’d had a plumber in the day before, and they’d laid it on the dog and taken the x-rays and just thrown them up there to see my reaction,” she said.
After second x-ray, Dr. Blanchard discovered that the object stayed dangerously along side the Leela’s spine just under her heart. So, she found the surgery is the best option to remove the object.
What was removed from the Leela’s body was a drumstick about 12 inches long, which is almost the length of her body.
How the puppy was able to ingest a drumstick the size of her entire body? No one knows…
