Does the sun revolve around Earth? Did humans live in the era of dinosaurus? Is radioactivity a human invention?
According to a recently published survey, one in every three Russians appear to believe so.
The survey released this week by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center found that 32% of Russians believed the Earth was the center of the Solar system.
That is four percent in comparison with 2007 when a similar survey was conducted.
The survey also shown that 55% believe that all radioactivity is a human invention. But that’s not all!
29% of Russians believe the first humans lived when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
“It’s really quite amazing,” spokeswoman Olga Kamenchuk said of the survey that polled 1,600 people across Russia’s regions in January. “All of them (the questions) were absolutely obvious… the data speaks of the low levels of education in the country.”
“I wonder whether our colleagues in other countries would find any different,” Kamenchuk added.
The study also said that women were more likely to believe the scientific fallacies than men.
