We have witnessed disasters after which a lot of so called prophets come out telling us that they have predicted it before it happened, missing to prove us their powers. Well, this prophecy has background. Morgan Robertson predicted the wreck of Titanic 14 years earlier!!! He published his novel “Futility” in 1898. It has significant similarities with the sinking of the famous ship in 1912.
It’s a story about an ocean liner named Titan. It was unsinkable, the latest greatest thing the man has invented. It was built of 19 water-tight compartments. Even if nine of them were full of water, Titan was capable to stay afloat. Confident in their creation, builders secured space only for the minimum number of 24 lifeboats required, enough only for a 500 of its 3000 passengers. Later in the book, on a calm April night, Titan struck an iceberg in North Atlantic and sink, in its very first journey. Only 13 people survived.
In 1912 Titanic was also considered as unsinkable wonder, built of 19 water-tight compartments. If nine of them were full of water, it wouldn’t be enough for sinking. Only 20 lifeboats were taken. It sank on a clear night on April 14th. You guess, in North Atlantic. There’s an incredible amount of similarity between Robertson’s novel and the ship that amazed the world before going in history in its maiden voyage.
After the real sinking of real Titanic, aware of his prediction, Robertson reprinted his book, this time named “Wreck of the Titan.” He made some little changes, never altering the outcome, and especially the unbelievable similarities.
Morgan Robertson himself was a son of a ship captain. He has even run away from home to join the Merchant Marine, where he gained the rank of First Mate. He was found dead in 1915 in Atlantic City, in front of an open window, looking toward the ocean.
